Palliative Care Classes, Free for Summit Patients

Palliative care is comfort care.  It helps relieve physical, emotional, social or spiritual distress arising from serious illness. Palliative care can be provided in conjunction with curative treatment and has been proven to extend life. The issue is not just the disease or illness itself, but the quality of life of the individual patient. The projected growth of chronic disease in the aging population makes this an important and timely topic.

Palliative care helps you gain strength to carry on with daily life and have more control over your care by improving communication so that you can better understand choices for treatment.

Program Objectives: Understand the legal, ethical and emotional issues regarding late life choices; Understand the appropriate use of the various Advance Directive tools including POST forms, DNR Orders, Advance Directive forms and others; Understand the risks and benefits of late in life choices.

This Palliative Care education class is offered by a partnership between Summit Medical Group and Tennova Healthcare.
