Summit Medical Group participates in 5-star Humana Medicare Advantage

Summit Medical Group extends its congratulations to Humana for earning the highest-possible 5‐star rating for its Medicare Advantage plan, Humana Gold Plus HMO. The largest primary care organization in East Tennessee, Summit is honored that 320 of its physicians and advanced practitioners care for approximately 30,000 individuals who participate in Humana Gold Plus HMO.

The ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reflect the excellence of Medicare plans nationally and are released prior to the Annual Election Period (AEP) enrollment, which is held Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 for the Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

“A 5-star rating is a reflection of the excellence of Humana and its participating providers, including those at Summit,” Summit Medical Group CEO Ed Curtis said.

“We are proud of our physician and value-based care teams, and we are proud to partner with Humana. We will continue to accept the Humana Gold Plus HMO Medicare Advantage plan in 2019, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent healthcare to our patients.”

The Humana Gold Plus HMO is offered in 50 counties throughout Tennessee. Summit Medical Group is the region’s largest primary care organization with more than 300 providers in 14 counties.

CMS uses information from member surveys, health plans and providers to determine star ratings, which range from one to five. The rating system reviews more than 40 quality measures in five categories, including:

  • - Staying healthy: screening tests and vaccines
  • - Managing chronic (long‐term) conditions
  • - Member experience with the health plan
  • - Member complaints and changes in the health plan’s performance
  • - Health plan customer service

“We are very honored to receive this recognition from CMS, and especially thankful to the more than 125,000 Medicare Advantage members in Tennessee who have placed their trust in us,” Humana Regional President Doug Haaland said. “We’re also grateful to the physicians who partner with us and our 600 employees across Tennessee who work tirelessly so that we can help our members achieve their best health and quality of life.”
