Dr. Erika Love Wild Herrera is an East Tennessee native and grew up in the small town of Parrottsville. She was one of only six chosen from the surrounding Appalachian states to be a Roan Scholar at East Tennessee State University, where she graduated suma cum laude. She obtained her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) - Carolinas. While in medical school she was the lead student who helped develop VCOM's interprofessional curriculum providing experiences to collaborate with nursing and pharmacy students aiming to improve patient outcomes. She was named VCOM's Distinguished Student in Family Medicine and Interprofessional Education. Also, she was named Virginia Commonwealth National Emerging Leader in Interprofessionalism.

During this time, she proudly served as a military wife while her husband was a active duty officer in the US Navy Submarine Force. She completed her residency at The University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville (UTMCK) in Family Medicine where she was the State Resident Delegate for the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians. She also was an active provider at UTMCK during the COVID Pandemic. She currently serves as a preceptor for medical students at Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Medicine and on the VCOM - Carolinas Alumni Board.
